The American Women's Association of Indonesia is an organization established and maintained especially for you, our Member. The AWA has been in existence in Indonesia for nearly 60 years. First established in the mid-1950s, our membership remains strong in numbers. AWA has grown into a vibrant organization that connects more than 200 women with a supportive network of fellow expatriates, cultural integration, charitable works and of course, plenty of fun activities! We are proud to serve the expatriate community and we welcome newcomers of every nationality.
The purpose of AWA is to give financial assistance to social welfare and/or socioeconomic projects in Indonesia, to foster feelings of fellowship among its members, to further interest in Indonesian cultural activities and to conduct activities of interest to citizens of the United States and others residing in Indonesia.
Through the Social Welfare Committee, many worthwhile projects in Indonesia are supported each year. Funds are raised from various fund-raising activities such as "Margaritaville" and "Bourbon Street Bash", along with the fall and spring shopping bazaars. In addition, funds are raised from the sale of our many publications - books that are invaluable to the new (and not so new) to Jakarta. These resources are chockfull of insightful information to help you settle into Jakarta. Our network of friendship and fun will keep you "in the know" and connected to your new community.
AWA can be a wonderful resource for you as you settle into your new Jakarta home. Members enjoy programs, tours & travel in Indonesia and abroad, and a wide variety of fun group activities. The AWA Center acts as a meeting place for friends to gather. You are warmly invited to drop in for a friendly cup of coffee - Please consider the AWA Center your home AWA(y) from home!
