AWA Members Matter is a Yahoo! Group available to AWA members only. The group is essentially an AWA distribution list that can be used to contact all existing AWA members who have registered for AWA Members Matter. It also stores all prior messages posted through the group. Members will find the AWA Members Matter group to be an extremely helpful resource by which to share knowledge and to learn about finding services and products, travel and medical information, and Jakarta-life in general. Although it is recommended that all AWA members take advantage of the AWA Members Matter, it is not a requirement of membership.
What is its purpose? To allow AWA members to access Jakarta’s greatest informational resource: each other! It is meant to provide an avenue for AWA members to do the following:
Enquire about life in and around Jakarta
Ask for advice on finding certain foods, items of clothing, toys, etc.
Organize a group of AWA members for lunch, dinner or a movie
Inform AWA members about a moving sale
Request tips or recommendations for travel excursions
Offer constructive feedback on how the AWA can better serve its members
Promote an AWA event or activity
What is it not? The AWA Members Matter should NOT be used for:
Promoting, advertising or in any way publicizing a personal business or product
Soliciting members for the purpose of marketing a product or service offered through a personal endeavor or business
Promoting or publicizing events and activities of charitable or commercial organizations other than the AWA
Promoting or sharing knowledge of illegal or unethical practices, e.g. “knock off” consumer goods
Disparaging the AWA or any of its members in an unconstructive manner

Q1: When will the AWA Members Matter be available for use?
A1: AWA members can become a part of the group when they renew their AWA membership for the 2013 /2014 membership year, or when they join as a new member for the 2013 /2014 membership year.
Q2: How do I become a member of the AWA Members Matter group?
A2: After registering for the 2013 /2014 membership year you will receive a Yahoo! Groups email invitation titled, “ This email address is being protected from spambots. Q3: What are the main features of the AWA Members Matter group?
A3: Features of the AWA Members Matter include: the ability to post and receive group emails, and the ability to reply to an email openly via the entire group or privately via the sender; plus web features including the ability to search archived messages, change the email address where you receive your messages and manage the frequency of emails (including temporarily stopping them if you choose to do so).
Q4: How do I get access to all the features of the AWA Members Matter?
A4: To access all the features listed above, simply click “Join this group” in the email invitation and follow the instructions to complete a Yahoo! Groups account or to link your existing Gmail account to Yahoo! Groups.
Q5: What type of access do I have in the AWA Members Matter if I do NOT want to create a Yahoo! ID or do not want to link my Gmail account?
A5: Once your email address has been added to our AWA Members Matter you will be able to post messages and reply to messages posted by others. Without creating a Yahoo! ID or linking a Gmail account, you are limited to these two features.
Q6: How do I find more information or log into the AWA Members Matter group?
A6: Go to the AWA website at www.awajakarta.org and click on the AWA Members Matter tab.
Q7: How do I post a new message or reply to a received post?
A7: To post a new message, use your personal email and enter This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in the “To” box. Alternatively, click on “Start a New Topic” at the bottom of a received group message. To reply to a received post, click on “Reply to group” (message will be sent to the entire group) or “Reply to sender” (message will be sent privately only to the sender) at the bottom of a received message.
Q8: Can I include an attachment, i.e. document, photo in my message to the group?
A8: Yes, using your personal email provider you can send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with an attachment.
Q9: Can I search archived messages for answers before posting my question?
A9: Yes, log in to the AWA Members Matter, click on “Messages”, type keywords in the “Search” box and click the Search button (option available to members who followed steps explained in Q4).
Q10: Can I receive my AWA Members Matter emails at a different email address?
A10: Yes, if you have full access to the group’s web features (see Q4). The AWA added you to the group using the email address you provided during membership registration. To add a different email address, log in to AWA Members Matter, click "Edit Membership" and go to “Step 1: Your Contact Information”. Add your new email
address or choose an existing one. Don't forget to click the “Save Changes” button at the very bottom.
Q11: I want to continue to be an AWA Members Matter member, but I don’t want to receive so many emails. What should I do?
A11: If you have full access to the group’s web features (see Q4) you can log in to AWA Members Matter (see Q6), click "Edit Membership" and scroll down to “Step 2: Message Delivery”. You can choose to receive each posting via individual email, the once-daily “digest” email, not receive any emails at all, or only receive special notice emails from the AWA Members Matter moderators. If you choose not to receive emails or only special notices, you can still post and reply to messages, log into the AWA Members Matter group and search through the archived messages. Don't forget to click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page.
Q12: I no longer wish to be a part of the group to post questions or read messages. How do I leave the AWA Members Matter group?
A12: It is not a requirement of AWA membership to be a part of the group. If you would like to leave, click the "Unsubscribe" link at the very bottom of any of the email messages you received from the AWA Members Matter.
